Comptia A+ certification updated with AI & cybersecurity

Yesterday

The CompTIA A+ certification has been updated to include new content on artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, cloud computing, and virtualization, reflecting the evolving responsibilities of tech support roles.

"As organizations increase their reliance on technology in all aspects of their operations, tech support teams have to be savvy and knowledgeable in many areas," explained Katie Hoenicke, Senior Vice President, Product Development at CompTIA. "IT pros who achieve CompTIA A+ certification have demonstrated they are capable of working in this fast-changing environment."

CompTIA A+ is positioned as the sole entry-level vendor-neutral certification specifically crafted for tech support personnel. The certification exams now place a greater emphasis on hands-on skills and practical problem-solving relevant to the current technological sphere.

The updated exam content covers fundamental artificial intelligence concepts, including the appropriate use of AI, recognising limitations, and differentiating between private and public data. This is intended to furnish tech support professionals with the necessary understanding to navigate AI-related challenges.

Cybersecurity also features more prominently in the new CompTIA A+ certification. Exam candidates will now need to familiarise themselves with measures, protocols, and tools for malware detection and prevention. This shift highlights the pressing need to protect systems and data from increasingly sophisticated cyber threats.

Cloud computing models and virtualization concepts are now integral parts of the updated exams. This section aims to equip IT professionals with the knowledge required to support modern IT infrastructures effectively.

The certification also addresses software troubleshooting. This area focuses on diagnosing and resolving software issues in complex environments, aiming to maintain system functionality and minimise downtime effectively.

Understanding robust networking solutions has been emphasised as well. The certification now includes content on VPNs and secure remote access, along with skills in connecting, configuring, and troubleshooting diverse network devices.

In tandem with the updated certification exams, CompTIA has released new learning products as part of the CompTIA A+ programme. These include CertMaster Perform, CertMaster Learn, and CertMaster Practice, designed to assist learners in mastering essential IT support skills through various educational tools such as videos, interactives, and hands-on labs. These resources cater to different learning preferences and styles, accommodating both self-study and instructor-led learning environments.

Globally, more than 1.3 million IT professionals have obtained the CompTIA A+ certification, which enjoys widespread recognition and application across numerous industry sectors. The certification is aligned with several work roles within the NICE Workforce Framework for Cybersecurity and the Department of Defense Cyber Workforce Framework.

The CompTIA A+ certification is accredited by the ANSI National Accreditation Board (ANAB) and complies with ISO 17024 standards, confirming its adherence to rigorous quality and relevance standards.
