European AI centre of excellence to launch in Paris

Sat, 8th Mar 2025

Viva Technology is partnering with the World Economic Forum to establish a European Centre for AI Excellence in Paris.

The new centre aims to bolster Europe's standing in the artificial intelligence sector by facilitating innovation, cross-border research, and fostering a supportive environment for AI startups. This collaboration builds on efforts showcased during the Action AI Summit, which was organised under the aegis of President Emmanuel Macron.

The partnership is supported by the World Economic Forum's AI Governance Alliance, which is noted for being a diverse network of AI stakeholders. This initiative aims to quicken technological advancements while supporting sustainable development.

The European Centre for AI Excellence (CAIE) is set to become part of the World Economic Forum's Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution Network. This network aims to unite both public and private sectors to harness technology for significant transformation.

CAIE plans to address several key challenges associated with AI by developing bespoke solutions that cater to Europe's specific needs. It intends to stimulate innovation and economic growth by leveraging France's established research capabilities, technology investments, and vibrant startup culture.

"The World Economic Forum, in partnership with VivaTech, is committed to shaping the future of AI in a way that drives innovation, economic growth and societal progress," said Jeremy Jurgens, Managing Director, World Economic Forum. "The new centre will bring together businesses, policy-makers and researchers to develop and scale AI solutions that create positive impact for all."

The strategic focus of the centre will include promoting leading research and innovations, encouraging responsible AI adoption across various sectors, and fostering collaborations to tackle shared challenges. By doing so, it aims to connect Europe's AI innovation ecosystem with global prospects, thereby boosting economic growth and enhancing competitiveness.

"Once launched, the centre will play a critical role in fostering pan-European collaboration for AI and showcasing Europe's unique role in advocating an alternative model that balances innovation and individual rights," said Maurice Lévy, Founder of VivaTech and Emeritus Chairman, Publicis Groupe. "The centre will be open to researchers from across the world and we plan to have close collaboration between European AI Research Institutes."
