OVHcloud unveils Veeam-based managed backup for Bare Metal

Mon, 19th Jan 2026

OVHcloud has launched a new managed backup product for its Bare Metal customers, offering a free software agent licence based on Veeam technology.

The service, called Backup Agent, sits inside OVHcloud’s platform and targets customers running workloads on dedicated servers. OVHcloud said the product is live across Europe and will roll out in APAC and Canada later in the quarter.

OVHcloud developed the Backup Agent in partnership with Veeam, which markets software for backup, recovery and ransomware resilience.

Product Details

OVHcloud said customers can access the Backup Agent through the OVHcloud control panel or the OVHcloud API. The company said the setup process takes 10 minutes or less.

The Backup Agent stores copies of data in a geographically distant location from the physical Bare Metal server, according to OVHcloud. The company said the backups use encryption and immutability features.

OVHcloud said the service uses its Object Storage product. It quoted a 99.9% SLA on 1-AZ for that storage layer.

Managed backup has become a more prominent part of cloud and hosting portfolios as customers face a mix of operational risks, ransomware incidents and regulatory expectations around data retention and recovery. Bare metal environments can place more responsibility on the customer for backup configuration than managed cloud services.

Pricing Model

OVHcloud said Backup Agent pricing starts at 0.007 Euros excl. VAT per gigabyte per month. It said there are no licensing costs attached to the software agent itself, because the offer includes a free licence based on Veeam technology.

The company did not state minimum storage volumes or any egress charges in the announcement.

Security Claims

OVHcloud framed the launch around resilience and security requirements. The company pointed to encryption and immutability as measures that limit the risk of unauthorised alteration of backup sets.

“At OVHcloud, security is not an option; it is the foundation of every service,” said Yaniv Fdida, Chief Product and Technology Officer, OVHcloud. “The promise of this offering to our customers is access to reliable resilience with no compromise on the confidentiality and security of their data.”

Veeam described the release as an extension of its relationship with OVHcloud.

“We are delighted to deepen our longstanding partnership with OVHcloud, a Platinum partner, by introducing this new solution for Bare Metal users,” said Christophe Fontaine, Senior Regional Technical Sales Director, Southern EMEA and Africa, Veeam. “With Veeam's advanced data protection and threat detection technology, customers can rely on industry-leading data resiliency and enjoy true peace of mind for their critical data.”

Roadmap Items

OVHcloud said it plans additional features in the coming months. One item it highlighted was “agentic consumption through MCP (Model Context Protocol) facilitating access to invoicing and usage data for AI agents”.

The company did not give further detail on how that MCP-based access will work in practice, or which user actions it will cover beyond invoicing and usage data.

Regional Availability

Backup Agent is available now across OVHcloud data centres in Europe for Bare Metal customers, the company said. It expects to make the service available to customers in APAC and Canada during the first quarter of this year.

OVHcloud operates more than 500,000 servers across 46 data centres on four continents, according to the company. It said it serves 1.6 million customers in more than 140 countries.

“The promise of this offering to our customers is access to reliable resilience with no compromise on the confidentiality and security of their data,” said Fdida.
