TechDay's Editor interviews: What you need to know

Mon, 12th Feb 2024

Editor interviews are TechDay's premium paid offering, where you are connected with one of our senior Editors.

This interview results in an exclusive written story with a short embedded video.

The story is generally about 600 words long, and the embedded video is approximately a minute long. We have tried longer and shorter versions but have found this is the perfect length for the majority of the audience to read and watch the entire piece.

Editor interviews are booked through your Account Manager at TechDay; they will then introduce you to the Editor who will be handling your interview.

But before we can craft a fantastic story, we need a few things to ensure the process goes as smoothly as possible for you and our editors.

Brief needed:

  • A brief of approximately 50 words that explains what you want us to write about.
  • Ensure you explain your objective. Registrations for an event? Website traffic? Educating prospective customers?
  • Your target market. For example, CIOs and IT managers that read IT Brief, resellers and system integrators that read ChannelLife, etc.
  • Do you have some material we can use to base the story on? For example, a press release, whitepaper, blog, product link etc.

The image

  • You can optionally provide a mugshot of the individual being interviewed. We find that stories with humans as images are more successful than stock photography.
  • Ideally, your mugshot would be a PNG or JPG format of 1200 pixels wide and at least 677 pixels high. The image shouldn't have text on it - stories with text in the image get significantly lower clicks.
  • We do not accept images that include text or logos. This changes our readers' perception of the story and is seen as advertising, which significantly reduces the number of readers that the story will attract.

The call-to-action

  • You can provide a click-through URL you want to direct readers to.
  • We cannot track the clicks when they leave our pages, so if you wish to track them, you should have a tracking URL or Analytics software on your website.

We have nine different interview types so far and developing more as we go:

  • Company & products overview
  • Company & ESG (environmental, social & governance) overview
  • Company & products refresher/update
  • Partner programme investigation
  • Channel strategy explained
  • Survey or report results
  • New products or solutions explained
  • Recruitment brand (why to work for)
  • Case study
  • Executive profile (Titan's of Tech)

If you can provide all of this to the Editor you are connected with before the interview, it will save time. We usually turn around Editor interviews in three to five working days.
