8BitDo opens pre-orders for premium Xbox controller
Mon, 21st Sep 2026 (Today)
Game Outlet Europe has opened pre-orders for the 8BitDo Ultimate 3E controller for Xbox and PC. The controller will go on general sale across Europe and the UK at £119.99.
The launch adds a new model to 8BitDo's gamepad range and marks a broader push into premium accessories for Xbox and Windows users. The device is officially licensed for Xbox and works with Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Windows 10 and 11. It also supports Bluetooth connections for iOS, iPadOS, and Android devices.
The Ultimate 3E introduces tunnelling magnetoresistance, or TMR, sensors in its joysticks, alongside Hall-effect impulse triggers. These technologies are designed to reduce wear in moving parts and improve accuracy compared with traditional potentiometer-based sticks.
Modularity is central to the new device. Users can swap ABXY button modules, choose between different D-pads, and change thumbstick heights and caps, giving players a range of physical layouts without buying separate controllers.
The controller also includes two remappable rear paddles and additional top shoulder buttons labelled L4 and R4. On PC, it supports a polling rate of up to 1000Hz and includes six-axis gyro motion control.
For console and PC connections, the pad supports low-latency 2.4GHz wireless and wired modes. A built-in 3.5mm audio jack adds headset support, with onboard controls for volume and microphone muting.
Game Outlet Europe is also bundling the controller with a charging dock that includes a compartment for the 2.4GHz receiver. The dock is designed to combine storage, charging, and wireless pairing in a single accessory.
Premium segment
At £119.99 in the UK and €139.99 in Europe, the Ultimate 3E sits well above the price of many third-party controllers and moves closer to the upper end of the market. The pricing suggests 8BitDo is targeting players willing to spend more on customisation and competitive features, rather than competing mainly on affordability.
8BitDo built its reputation on retro-styled controllers and accessories, but the Ultimate 3E signals a continued shift toward more modern designs and higher-spec products. The company has increasingly expanded beyond nostalgia-focused hardware into pads aimed at mainstream console and PC players.
That change reflects a wider trend in the games accessories market, where specialist controller makers are trying to attract buyers with swappable parts, drift-resistant sticks, and extra inputs for online competitive play. Manufacturers have focused in particular on stick longevity after repeated complaints from players across the industry about analogue drift.
Distribution reach
For Game Outlet Europe, the pre-order launch adds another product aimed at the higher-margin accessories market. The Swedish distributor says it distributes video games and gaming accessories in more than 40 countries, giving brands such as 8BitDo access to retail networks across Europe and other international markets.
Independent distributors remain important in the accessories segment, particularly for specialist brands that need local retail relationships and regional logistics support. In that context, a pre-order campaign can help gauge demand before stock reaches stores, especially for a controller at this price point.
The specification also shows how closely third-party hardware makers now mirror features once more commonly associated with first-party and enthusiast devices. Rear inputs, trigger stops, modular controls, and charging docks have become more common as accessory makers try to distinguish products in a crowded market.
Even so, price remains a key test. With consumers facing a wide choice of Xbox-compatible controllers, the Ultimate 3E will need to persuade buyers that replaceable modules, TMR joysticks, and bundled accessories justify a position above the mainstream third-party market.
Retail availability is set for October 23 across Europe and the UK, with pricing at €139.99 and £119.99.
