Amazon expands generative AI listing tools for European sellers

Tue, 25th Jun 2024

Amazon has announced the expansion of its generative AI listing tools to sellers across Europe. These tools aim to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) by simplifying the listing creation process and enriching existing product listings.

The first tool facilitates the creation of product listings, enabling sellers to generate engaging titles, descriptions, and other details by providing only basic descriptive inputs or uploading product images. "We are also leveraging generative AI capabilities to analyse and enrich existing product listings, automatically adding missing information and improving overall content quality," Amazon stated.

A recent Amazon survey highlighted the benefits SMEs are experiencing with generative AI tools. According to the survey, seven out of ten small business owners using generative AI have seen improvements to their businesses through the technology.

Amazon's new AI tools for sellers were introduced to the European and UK markets a few weeks ago. These tools allow sellers to create high-quality and engaging product listings efficiently. The company expects this to streamline operations, enabling sellers to focus on other critical business areas. Despite being a relatively new feature, over 30,000 of Amazon's European and UK partners have already utilised one or more of the generative AI listing tools.

Dharmesh Mehta, Vice President of Worldwide Selling Partner Services, commented on the development, stating, "Machine learning and generative AI are transforming every industry, and retail is no exception — everything from the shopping experience to fulfilment and logistics, to the tools we provide to sellers to help them succeed in our store."

Mehta added, "UK sellers can now benefit from innovations that leverage the power of generative AI to greatly simplify the process of product listing creation, as well as enrich existing product listings to better resonate with customers and help drive sales."

Censuswide conducted a survey in May 2024 involving 2,511 small business owners selling online across the UK, Germany, France, Spain, and Italy. The findings shed light on the perceived advantages of AI among UK early adopters. A significant portion agreed that AI could save time (79%), improve content (73%), enhance profitability (73%), elevate customer service (72%), and expand reach to international customers (71%).

Moreover, the survey revealed that UK SME business owners believe AI can substantially reduce the time required for writing and updating product descriptions. On average, AI usage could cut down the time spent writing product descriptions from eight hours to one hour per month, and updating descriptions from seven hours to one hour per month.

Furthermore, over a third (32%) of respondents felt that AI-generated content could boost a product's discoverability. Attracting new customers emerged as a key challenge highlighted by these businesses.

The introduction of generative AI tools by Amazon signifies a strategic move to leverage advanced technologies to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of e-commerce operations for SMEs. This initiative underscores the company's commitment to supporting its sellers by providing innovative solutions to meet their evolving needs.
