Baxter Freight has achieved B Corp certification, joining more than 2,700 certified businesses in the UK.

Awarded by B Lab, the certification follows an assessment of governance, workers, community, environment and customers. Certified companies must recertify every three years.

The Nottingham logistics company said the designation reflects a range of measures across its operations, including work with customers on supply-chain emissions and engagement with suppliers on social and environmental standards. It also highlighted its internal employment policies and local charity work in Nottingham.

Founded in 2014, Baxter Freight specialises in freight by road, sea, air and rail and employs 140 staff at its Nottingham headquarters. It expects turnover of £52 million in 2026.

Sector impact

The move comes as logistics companies face growing scrutiny over emissions and labour practices across supply chains. Baxter Freight cited figures from Smart Freight Centre showing logistics activities account for about 7% to 11% of global carbon emissions.

Against that backdrop, the company has been working with customers to measure and reduce emissions linked to freight movements. Its approach includes GLEC-verified carbon reporting, mitigation measures and carbon insetting within logistics networks.

It is also working with suppliers to widen access to lower-emission transport options and improve social and environmental outcomes across its network. In logistics, supplier choices can shape both emissions levels and working conditions throughout the supply chain.

Workforce measures

Within the business, Baxter Freight said it operates fair recruitment practices and places emphasis on internal progression. It is a Living Wage Employer and offers eight weeks of fully paid parental leave, along with gym and sustainable travel subsidies, personal development support and regular business updates.

It also pointed to its partnership with Hope Nottingham, a local foodbank charity. Support includes paid volunteering days and fundraising.

B Corp certification has become a recognised benchmark for companies seeking to demonstrate social and environmental standards alongside financial performance. For transport and logistics businesses, where decisions on routing, mode and sourcing can have broad environmental and social effects, the framework is increasingly used to formalise accountability.

More than 10,300 businesses worldwide have now achieved B Corp status, according to figures cited by Baxter Freight. The UK has more than 2,700 certified companies.

In a statement announcing the certification, chair Ian Baxter said:

"Since Baxter Freight was founded in 2014, we've always believed it's possible to be commercially successful while doing business in an ethical and responsible way. Becoming B Corp Certified formalises the next step in our journey, putting purpose alongside profit, and further embedding accountability at the heart of how we operate."
