BIXOLON said its SRP-Q300K printer has been integrated into self-service kiosks made by Serbian provider pos4all, with 80 kiosks rolled out across Serbia.

Over the past two years, the printer has been deployed in retail kiosks as operators expanded self-service options and automated more customer transactions. The companies said the units have operated in high-traffic environments with no reported printer-related customer complaints.

Pos4all develops point-of-sale and self-service kiosk systems for the retail and hospitality sectors. For this project, it wanted a compact kiosk design that could work in freestanding, countertop and wall-mounted formats while maintaining reliable receipt printing and straightforward maintenance.

A key design issue was limited internal space inside the kiosk. The printer had to fit into a small footprint without affecting speed, servicing or integration with the rest of the system.

BIXOLON's SRP-Q300K, a cube-style receipt printer, was selected and supplied through distributor KimTec Group. It was integrated with the kiosk hardware and software setup, including a Philips LCD touch screen and Windows 11 IoT.

The deployment reflects a wider retail technology trend, as kiosk makers balance smaller form factors with the need for dependable components in busy stores. Receipt printing remains a basic but necessary part of many self-service transactions, particularly in markets where customers still expect a printed record at checkout.

Design constraints

For kiosk manufacturers, space inside the cabinet is often a main engineering constraint, particularly when touchscreens, payment hardware and connectivity components must fit within the same enclosure. A printer that is difficult to access can also increase service time for paper changes or repairs, affecting availability on the shop floor.

Pos4all said it wanted a slim unit flexible enough to fit different installation models. It also needed the printer to support a consistent user experience as the kiosks were introduced into everyday retail and hospitality environments.

Stevan Jevtovic, chief executive officer of pos4all, said: "Our goal was to create a compact and visually appealing self-service kiosk without compromising reliability or performance. BIXOLON's printing solution gave us the flexibility, stability and ease of integration we needed to successfully deliver a dependable self-checkout platform for modern retail environments. The integrated BIXOLON printer solution has provided reliable performance, supporting our business operations."

The printer is designed to make paper replacement quick and simple, while offering multiple communication interface options for system integration. Those features are particularly relevant in self-service environments, where downtime can quickly affect customer flow and store operations.

Retail push

The Serbian rollout comes as retailers and hospitality operators continue to test and expand self-service formats to reduce queues, improve staff allocation and give customers more control over transactions. Demand for kiosk systems has also created opportunities for regional integrators that can tailor equipment to local market needs and installation conditions.

For printing hardware suppliers, this has kept receipt printers relevant even as more of the checkout experience becomes digital. In self-service systems, printers still need to work consistently within a wider mix of screens, payment systems and operating software.

Paul Kim, managing director of BIXOLON Europe, said: "We are delighted that pos4all selected the SRP-Q300K printer to power its innovative self-service kiosks. The printer has demonstrated consistent operational reliability in high-traffic locations over a two-year period, with no reported printer-related customer complaints."

He added: "This deployment demonstrates how BIXOLON printing solutions support technology partners such as pos4all in integrating printing into self-service kiosks and delivering retail automation solutions for their customers."
