Canon unveils new inkjet presses to boost commercial printing

Fri, 5th Dec 2025

Canon has expanded its sheetfed inkjet press portfolio with the introduction of the varioPRESS iV7 and varioPRINT iX1700, targeting commercial print service providers (PSPs) seeking to increase productivity and transition to higher-volume, higher-quality digital printing.

Product launches

The varioPRESS iV7 serves as Canon's new flagship for B2-format production, with the capability to print 8,700 B2 sheets per hour and a design that supports monthly volumes of up to 4.5 million B2 images when operated 24 hours a day, six days a week. The press is aimed at PSPs, online printers, and organisations needing to fulfil both fast-turnaround commercial jobs and premium applications, such as books and magazines.

Alongside it, the varioPRINT iX1700 has been positioned as a B3 inkjet platform capable of producing between 300,000 and 2 million A4 images per month. It can print up to 170 A4 images or 73 B3 images per minute, powered by Canon's new Qualinx technology, which draws upon research and development work from Canon sites in Japan, Germany, and the Netherlands.

Addressing market needs

Both presses are intended to support migration from digital toner production devices and enable shorter offset runs to be shifted to inkjet, reflecting ongoing changes in print buying behaviour and demand for shorter runs and more diverse media capabilities.

The expanded range, which also includes the established varioPRINT iX3200/2100, allows Canon to offer a product for nearly every print volume-from smaller jobs starting at 15,000 A4 images per month to large-scale operations printing millions of sheets. This helps PSPs choose equipment matched to their growth ambitions.

Inkjet push

Canon said the new presses consolidate its presence in the production print market, allowing it to serve both commercial and in-house providers with digital solutions intended to replace or supplement traditional offset operations. The new models aim to offer reliable quality and faster turnaround times without sacrificing the ability to handle a wide range of substrates.

Canon has marked a decade of activity in the sheetfed inkjet segment. It is positioning the iV7 and iX1700 as options for those seeking a clear upgrade path as their production needs change, offering scalable solutions across the spectrum of production print environments.

Customer confidence

Stuart Rising, Head of Graphic Arts, Canon UK & Ireland, said: "With the introduction of the varioPRESS iV7 and varioPRINT iX1700, we can now offer customers the broadest range of digital sheetfed presses in the industry. This combined with our established dominance in web-fed production reinforces our position as a leader within the digital production print market. This is backed by our heritage and expertise in digital printing, which helps us to support our customers across multiple areas - from exploring new applications to better workflow management to cost optimisation. This expanded portfolio, combined with our close customer collaborations geared toward fostering growth, means commercial and in-house printers can feel confident that, whatever their needs, Canon can provide the right solution for any volume requirement."
"This year we've celebrated 10 years of heritage and leadership within the sheetfed inkjet market, so it's significant to end the year announcing the availability of the latest additions to this portfolio. Over the last decade, hundreds of commercial printers have grown their businesses with us and, as we move into 2026 with the availability of these two presses, we're looking forward to partnering with even more print businesses to help transform and grow their digital print offering."
