DoodleMaths app enhanced for tailored learning in the UK

Today

Discovery Education has announced enhancements to its DoodleMaths app, aimed at personalised maths practice for students from the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) to Key Stage 3 (KS3) in the UK.

Part of the Discovery Education suite, DoodleMaths is an app designed by teachers and filled with interactive exercises. It aligns with the curriculum, allowing for self-paced learning and is geared towards improving numeracy skills both for classroom learning and beyond. The app continuously adjusts to the learner's unique needs, which not only boosts student skills but also builds their confidence.

The enhancements are a result of collaboration between DoodleLearning's product team, teachers, and education experts. These include a new lesson structure, interactive tools, and accessibility features, making the app more intuitive and engaging.

The app now features new, interactive lesson structures based on the "Connect, Discover and Explore" model. This allows pupils to consolidate their learning, acquire new skills, and engage with interactive, real-world tasks within the app.

Additionally, new digital manipulatives and models have been integrated into the app. These provide a hands-on learning experience that fosters a deeper understanding of numbers. This update also includes more images and animations to further engage pupils and bring mathematical concepts to life.

Enhancements to accessibility are also a key focus. An updated text-to-speech function allows users to play single lines of text, aiding those with visual impairments. A glossary feature has been introduced to help pupils quickly access definitions of unfamiliar words. The app's user interface design has been improved to support students with low vision and colour blindness. Moreover, the app's questions have been redesigned according to the best practices for accessibility.

The curriculum design within DoodleMaths has been expanded, particularly for the primary maths curriculum at the EYFS level. This includes shorter lesson durations, enabling pupils to complete sessions and earn rewards in around ten minutes.

Steve Richards, UK Product Manager at DoodleLearning, stated, "These new enhancements and updates to DoodleMaths make it even easier for pupils - including those with differing abilities – to access high-quality learning experiences that support increased achievement. We are committed to ensuring every pupil using DoodleLearning can progress at their own pace and grow in confidence, and we look forward unveiling even more updates to our award-winning suite of apps very soon."

DoodleLearning's design aims to personalise learning experiences, improving pupil confidence and ability. A University of Bath study highlighted that children using DoodleMaths for 20 minutes a week are significantly less likely to experience learning loss compared to their peers. Additionally, frequent use of the app doubles the rate of progression for children.

Further updates to DoodleLearning are planned, with releases scheduled throughout 2025/6.
