Ecommpay for Good highlights a year of progress in inclusion
Ecommpay has outlined the progress made in its inclusivity programme, Ecommpay for Good, over the past year as it marks National Inclusion Week.
Ecommpay, a payments platform, launched Ecommpay for Good in September 2024 as a dedicated initiative aimed at providing merchants with support to improve accessibility and to offer a more inclusive payment experience for customers. The programme's stated mission is to help achieve financial inclusivity across all customer and merchant groups.
Programme milestones
During the twelve months since its inception, Ecommpay for Good has implemented a range of initiatives. These include a partnership with the Digital Accessibility Centre to develop a Guide to Digital Accessibility, which aims to assist merchants in enhancing the accessibility of their online presence. The company also rebranded its website, introducing accessible layouts and adding a dark mode to the merchant dashboard to assist users with visual impairments.
Ecommpay has worked with Cressida Stephenson, Chief Executive Officer and founder of EdenChase Associates, a disability inclusion advocate, to introduce a mandatory Neurodiversity Training Programme for all employees. This training focuses on fostering a neuro-inclusive culture throughout the company.
In addition, Ecommpay joined the Disability Confident Scheme, which involves commitments to improve the recruitment, retention, and development of disabled people within the organisation. The company has also taken steps to raise awareness of Purple Tuesday, a global initiative promoting disability inclusion, by urging businesses more broadly to focus on accessibility.
Further external engagement included providing expert insights at industry events. Among these, Ecommpay representatives participated in the "Meet Magento Accessibility Panel" and shared accessibility expertise with Project Nemo. Collaboration has also extended to not-for-profit partnerships, such as working with the European Women in Payments Network (EWPN) to support community-building for women in the cards, finTech, and payments sectors across Europe.
To address accessibility specifically for visually impaired employees and customers, Ecommpay has worked with the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) to achieve the 'Visibly Better Employee Standard' recognition.
Management perspective
"We are extremely proud of our achievements so far as part of the Ecommpay for Good programme", said Miranda McLean, Chief Marketing Officer at Ecommpay. "And National Inclusion Week is the perfect time to mark this success. Inclusivity 'by default' is the ethos across all areas of Ecommpay and is built into everything we do. Inclusion isn't an afterthought – it is at the core of all our products, training and recruitment. We believe this makes Ecommpay totally aligned to this year's National Inclusion Week theme - 'Now Is The Time'."
National Inclusion Week was founded by Inclusive Employers in 2013 and is observed each September. The aim is to celebrate inclusion and encourage practical actions to foster inclusive workplaces. The week provides a focus for discussions and the launch of new inclusion initiatives across organisations.
Looking ahead, the company is defining further objectives for its inclusivity work. McLean stated, "Now into our second year of Ecommpay for Good we are establishing our next set of goals to ensure the importance of inclusivity is never lost. As a business we thrive to continue to adapt with new regulations and will expand our strategy to help achieve the final goal of ultimate financial inclusivity."
