Visa, TikTok roll out UK debit card for LIVE creators

Wed, 22nd Apr 2026 (Yesterday)

Visa and TikTok have launched a debit card for TikTok LIVE creators in the UK, which they describe as the first card of its kind in the market.

The Creator Card is designed for people who earn income through TikTok LIVE and want to keep business and personal spending separate. It is linked to a business account that gives users quicker access to earnings and allows them to spend funds before standard payout delays have fully cleared.

For many creators, income does not arrive on a fixed monthly cycle. TikTok LIVE users receive virtual gifts during broadcasts, convert those gifts into diamonds, and then exchange them for income, creating a payment pattern that can be uneven and harder to manage alongside day-to-day costs.

Visa's UK research, based on a survey of 1,000 professional content creators across several social media platforms, points to broader financial pressure in the sector. It found that 49% had experienced late or inconsistent payments that affected their business, 41% had turned down new opportunities because of cash flow problems, and 37% said payment delays had caused stress or anxiety.

The data also suggests creators are increasingly treating their work as a business. According to Visa, 94% want to separate personal and business finances, while 86% of creator-run businesses are self-funded.

Creator economy

The launch reflects a wider push by financial services groups to treat content creators as a distinct customer segment. Visa has previously described creators as small businesses and estimates there are about 200 million creators worldwide, with the sector projected to reach USD $500 billion by 2027.

Earlier international research by Visa found that 88% of creators expected business revenue growth over the following year. It also reported that 85% were full-time or part-time creators earning up to USD $100,000 a year, while many combined several income streams, including brand partnerships, affiliate marketing, and services.

The UK card focuses on TikTok LIVE earnings, but the offer is intended to help creators manage income from other sources as well, including brand partnerships and platform payouts. That matters in a market where many operate across several apps and revenue models at once.

For TikTok, the move adds a financial product to an ecosystem built around creator monetisation. The platform has expanded tools that let users earn directly from audiences, and LIVE has become a central part of that strategy because it supports real-time interaction and gifting.

Cash flow issue

One challenge for creators is timing. Income can arrive in bursts, and even short gaps between earnings and when money becomes available in an account can affect their ability to pay bills, buy equipment, or fund new work.

For some smaller operators, that appears to be a constraint on growth. The finding that two in five creators had declined work because of cash flow pressures suggests payment timing can shape commercial decisions as much as headline income levels.

"We are incredibly excited to launch the UK Creator Card with TikTok to empower the next generation of entrepreneurs in the digital economy. This launch is designed to give creators faster access to income from TikTok LIVE, brand partnerships, and platform payouts, so they can spend, plan and reinvest in their business straight away. By simplifying access to funds, we're helping creators manage cash flow with confidence, so they can stay focused on what they do best - growing their business," Lucy Demery, Senior Vice President, Head of Visa Commercial Solutions, Europe, Visa, said.

The partnership also gives TikTok a way to present LIVE creators as business owners rather than casual users earning side income. That distinction is becoming more important as creators seek formal banking tools, credit histories, and payment services designed around irregular earnings.

"TikTok LIVE is creating the next generation of digital entrepreneurs, transforming the way creators and audiences connect in real-time. By partnering with Visa, we're giving the LIVE community even more ways to manage their rewards, helping creators turn their passion into a sustainable career," said Paula D'Urbano, Country Manager, TikTok LIVE UK, Ireland & Baltics, TikTok.
