EDGNEX to build 40MW data centre in Madrid by 2026

EDGNEX Data Centers, a part of the DAMAC Group, is expanding its international footprint with a new 40MW data centre project in Madrid, Spain.

The company has acquired a site in the Vicalvaro region of Madrid from real estate private equity manager ActivumSG. The upcoming facility, covering an area of 22,000 square metres, is set to begin operations by 2026 and aims to accommodate the growing demand for data centre services outside of the FLAPD markets—Frankfurt, London, Amsterdam, Paris, and Dublin.

The centre is situated 10km from Madrid International Airport and 5km from an Internet Exchange. It is expected to enhance Madrid's digital infrastructure, providing opportunities for hyperscalers and enterprise clients to expand their operations. This location is anticipated to be pivotal, enabling businesses to access advanced computing and artificial intelligence capabilities while fostering an environment for digital innovation.

Hussain Sajwani, Founder of DAMAC Group, commented on the investment, "We plan on investing Euro 400 million in our first 40MW investment in the Spanish Data Centre space. Spain's advanced connectivity, strategic location, and commitment to renewable energy make it an ideal hub for expanding our high-performance infrastructure."

The project is expected to contribute to Spain's sustainability goals by utilising renewable energy, which aligns with the country's existing infrastructure, where 60% of power is generated from renewable sources. The facility will be designed to minimise environmental impact, aligning with DAMAC's commitment to providing efficient and environmentally responsible solutions.

This site is one of the few prime locations in Madrid with secured, fully redundant power available within two years from two independent substations, ensuring rapid deployment in a market facing significant demand-supply challenges."

This initiative in Spain is part of DAMAC's broader strategy to boost its presence in Europe. Following recent expansions in the Middle East and developments in Bangkok and Indonesia, DAMAC is strengthening its position in the Asia-Pacific region.
