Hot Wheels racing game launches exclusively for BMW drivers

Thu, 30th Oct 2025

Mattel, AirConsole and BMW have collaborated to introduce "Hot Wheels: Xtreme Overdrive" as a new in-car gaming experience, available exclusively to BMW drivers through AirConsole.

The game is accessible now for BMW users and features a vehicle inspired by the latest BMW iX3, alongside a custom Panoramic Drive track, which has been built inside the BMW Vision Neue Klasse X. The arrangement is set to remain exclusive until June 2026.

"Hot Wheels: Xtreme Overdrive" follows on from Mattel's previous digital release, "UNO Car Party!" and aims to broaden the scope of entertainment available within vehicles. The game capitalises on the Hot Wheels brand-recognised by Circana as the world's top selling toy in 2024-and marks a further step in the adoption of branded content within modern car infotainment systems.

Features and gameplay

The game includes a selection of eight Hot Wheels vehicles in addition to the exclusive BMW iX3. Players can race on six different courses, including the specially designed Panoramic Drive track set inside the BMW Neue Klasse X. Modes on offer comprise Quick Race, Cup Mode and Custom Track mode, while up to four players can participate using smartphones as controllers via AirConsole's system.

Personalisation forms a key part of the experience. Players earn points from races which can be used to unlock and customise legendary Hot Wheels vehicles, offering opportunities to showcase custom car looks within the game environment.

BMW's integration with AirConsole allows drivers and passengers to access the game using the car's infotainment system. The process to connect is designed to be straightforward: users scan a QR code within the vehicle, pair a smartphone as a game controller, and begin play.

Availability for the gaming platform covers current BMW and MINI models running Operating System 9 with BMW Digital Premium or MINI Connected Package, as well as BMW Operating System 8.5 with ConnectedDrive Professional. It will also feature in the next generation of vehicles with BMW Operating System X, starting with the new BMW iX3.

Industry context

AirConsole's library on BMW vehicles now numbers more than 30 games across various genres, including racing, sports, arcade, strategy and party games. Other notable titles in the offering are "Overcooked" from Team 17, "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?" from Sony Pictures, and "PAC-MAN Championship Edition" from Bandai Namco.

This expansion sees BMW continuing to invest in in-car digital offering, in what the companies see as a shift in how vehicles are used as shared spaces for both travel and entertainment. AirConsole's system enables stationary drivers as well as passengers to participate in these games, with the aim of enhancing downtime or shared travel breaks.

"Cars are no longer just about driving them, they're becoming entertainment hubs. BMW's continuous investment into exclusive content with AirConsole is a testament of in-car entertainment's growing importance. With BMW and Mattel, we're proving that the passenger experience can be as iconic as the drive itself" said Anthony Cliquot, CEO of N-Dream.

The partnership between BMW Group and N-Dream, which began in 2022, has provided the basis for these updates, with both firms exploring intuitive and accessible gameplay for use within vehicles. The system enables anyone in the vehicle to join a game using their phone as a controller.

According to the companies, this latest release aims to meet growing demand from consumers for seamless entertainment experiences.
