NFON has appointed Neil Coulthard as Head of Sales and Managing Director for its UK business, putting him in charge of the company's sales and partner strategy in the market.

Coulthard reports to Jennifer Fritsch, Vice President of Small & Midsize Sales at NFON, and will oversee UK sales, partner development and the company's enterprise business. His remit also includes strengthening existing partner relationships, attracting new strategic partners, and increasing cross-selling and upselling across NFON's portfolio.

The appointment comes as the communications provider looks to expand its position in a crowded UK market. Alongside its core cloud telephony business, NFON is placing greater emphasis on AI-based applications as part of a broader communications offering.

UK focus

The UK remains a priority market for NFON, and Coulthard's role will focus on building closer links with channel partners while widening the company's reach among larger customers. Partners are seen as a key route to sales growth in Britain, particularly as NFON looks to broaden conversations beyond telephony services.

Alexander Wettjen, Executive Vice President of Group Sales & Marketing at NFON, said: "The UK market is changing, and so are the opportunities for NFON and our partners. Neil understands both where the business comes from and where the market is going. His appointment reflects our clear commitment to the UK and our ambition to build on what we have already established and accelerate our development in the market."

As competition intensifies across hosted communications, cloud telephony and adjacent software-led services, NFON is seeking to raise its profile with partners and customers. By giving one executive responsibility for both sales and country leadership, the company is combining commercial oversight with local execution.

Channel strategy

Coulthard joins from Charterhouse Group, where he was Director of Sales Operations. Before that, he was Channel Director at Focus Group and earlier held senior sales leadership roles at Gamma, giving him experience across direct sales, partner relationships and the UK communications market.

That background appears central to NFON's plans in the UK. Its broader product set creates additional opportunities for partners whose customer bases and services align with its wider communications offering.

Coulthard said: "Partners are how we grow in the UK. For me, it starts with listening: to the team, to our partners and to customers. I want to identify where we can genuinely move the needle, turn that into clear joint plans and create new opportunities for our partners to grow their businesses. We will keep the core cloud telephony business central while moving quickly to unlock the opportunities across NFON's wider AI-powered communications portfolio."

His remarks suggest NFON does not plan to move away from its established telephony base, but instead wants to use that core business as an entry point to a broader set of services. In practical terms, that means existing resellers and strategic partners are likely to play a bigger role in introducing newer products to customers already using the company's communications tools.

European footprint

Headquartered in Munich, NFON operates across several European markets through its own subsidiaries, including the UK, Germany, Austria, Italy, Spain, France, Poland, Portugal and Kosovo. Founded in 2007, the company describes its business as combining telephony, intelligent assistant and customer engagement products.

For the UK operation, the hire signals a sharper focus on execution rather than simply adding product lines. Coulthard takes on responsibility for partner growth, enterprise development and sales leadership in one of Europe's most competitive communications markets.
