Quest launches new solutions for cyber resilience boost

Yesterday

Quest Software has introduced advancements in Identity Threat Detection and Response (ITDR) and disaster recovery by launching two new solutions aimed at enhancing cyber resilience against identity-based attacks.

The company has developed "Security Guardian Shields Up" and "Disaster Recovery for Identity" as part of its unified identity cloud platform. Quest highlights the significance of these solutions in the current climate, where 600 million identity attacks on Microsoft Entra ID occur daily, with 99% involving credential misuse. Existing systems relying on passive alerts and complex recovery processes may expose organisations to vulnerabilities.

A statement from Gartner underscores this point, asserting, "Conventional identity and access management and security preventive controls are insufficient to protect identity systems from attack.

"To enhance cyberattack preparedness, security and risk management leaders must add ITDR capabilities to their security infrastructure," it said.

Quest's "Security Guardian Shields Up" enables organisations to temporarily freeze all changes to Tier 0 objects. This function aims to disrupt attacks involving lateral movement and persistence within Active Directory structures.

Additionally, "Disaster Recovery for Identity" removes the risks associated with traditional backup processes by allowing instant and secure Active Directory restoration, even after a complete ransomware attack.

John Hernandez, President and General Manager at Quest Software, highlighted the importance of immediate response and recovery in identity security: "The future of identity security isn't just about knowing when an attack happens—it's about stopping it in real time and recovering without disruption.

"With Security Guardian delivering proactive protection and response and Disaster Recovery for Identity ensuring rapid restoration, Quest is redefining what effective ITDR looks like," Hernandez said.

Quest Software has been involved in identity security and recovery for over 25 years, with significant advancements in reducing identity attack surfaces and streamlining security operations. This history includes migrating 100 petabytes of data and backing up over 37 billion Entra ID objects in the past year.

The unified cloud platform developed by Quest is designed to improve identity management by prioritising the most exploitable vulnerabilities and critical identity configurations, assisting organisations in efficiently modernising their identity management systems. According to the company, Quest's approach is aimed at bolstering security and enabling IT teams, partners, and managed service providers (MSPs) to maintain secure environments across Microsoft 365 and Entra ID platforms.

The company's stated goal is to simplify identity security processes, thereby reducing the need for extensive training while equipping operators with the necessary tools and resources to enhance their capabilities.
