Smarsh has appointed Alessandro Silva as Chief Growth Officer, a newly created role that brings the company's commercial operations under a single strategy.

Silva will oversee Smarsh's Enterprise, Corporate, Public Sector and Global Channel businesses. The change is intended to support international expansion and create a more consistent customer approach across markets.

He joins from ACI Worldwide, where he was Chief Revenue Officer and led the global commercial organisation, including sales effectiveness, go-to-market strategy and customer success. Earlier, he held senior sales and general management roles at Western Union, GE Capital and The Carlyle Group.

Smarsh provides communications data and oversight tools to regulated organisations. The appointment comes as companies contend with growing volumes of digital communications, new forms of AI-led collaboration and more complex regulation. A unified commercial structure is intended to speed decision-making while helping teams respond to the needs of different industries and regions.

Kim Crawford Goodman, Chief Executive Officer of Smarsh, linked the hire to the company's international ambitions.

"Smarsh has an exceptional foundation for global growth: trusted technology, talented people, and a customer base that includes 80% of the world's top global banks," said Kim Crawford Goodman, Chief Executive Officer of Smarsh.

Goodman added: "Alessandro brings the global perspective and proven leadership we need to turn that opportunity into sustained growth."

Commercial focus

The new role consolidates routes to market that were previously organised across separate business units. Silva will be responsible for aligning those operations under one commercial strategy, with an emphasis on execution and customer experience across international markets.

The company serves regulated clients including major banks, brokerage firms, insurers, registered investment advisers and government agencies. Its client base includes nine of the top 10 banks in North America, Europe and Asia.

Smarsh has also expanded its work in AI-related communications oversight. This year, it launched Discovery Agent, its MCP Server, AskSmarsh AI and MySearch Agent, and extended capture to Claude Enterprise, Amazon Bedrock and Google Workspace.

The company said these product moves are part of its effort to support regulated firms using AI tools while maintaining controls over communications data. It also said it was named to the Inc. 5000 for the 19th consecutive year, recognised as a Leader in Gartner's Magic Quadrant for Digital Communications Governance and Archiving for the ninth consecutive year, and received a Business Intelligence Group AI Excellence Award for Fraud Detection and Prevention.

Growth mandate

Silva said his remit would depend on coordination across the business, not sales leadership alone.

"Growth may be my mandate, but it is a shared mission, and every team across Smarsh has a role in achieving it," said Alessandro Silva, Chief Growth Officer of Smarsh.

He added: "My focus is turning our strengths into a connected commercial strategy that helps us serve customers more effectively and scale with greater speed and consistency."

The creation of the Chief Growth Officer role points to a broader effort by Smarsh to tighten its commercial structure as demand shifts across regions and customer groups. For software and data companies serving regulated sectors, growth often depends not only on product development but also on the ability to coordinate sales, partnerships and customer support across multiple jurisdictions.

Silva's background suggests Smarsh is seeking experience in international revenue operations as it expands further outside its existing base. His previous roles at ACI Worldwide, Western Union, GE Capital and The Carlyle Group were all tied to businesses operating across borders and in sectors shaped by compliance requirements.

That experience may prove relevant as Smarsh seeks to balance a centralised commercial strategy with local regulatory demands. The new structure is intended to create consistency while still adapting to the requirements of different industries, regions and regulatory environments.
