Softonic unveils Publishing Centre for direct developer control

Thu, 20th Nov 2025

Softonic has introduced the Softonic Publishing Centre, offering software developers direct management over their software listings. The new portal enables developers to publish, update, and monitor their programs, targeting a user base that numbers more than 100 million each month.

Developer control

With the new platform, developers gain ownership of their listings. They can claim, create, or revise product information, update versions, and adjust content and policies. The Publishing Centre's structure is intended to facilitate this control without the involvement of intermediaries, allowing for swift responses to user needs and quicker updates.

Transparency measures

Verification processes are built into the new offering. Listings require confirmed ownership, and all program details are governed by transparent policies. A human editorial team oversees submissions to ensure quality and accountability, countering the risks associated with anonymous or unchecked software.

Analytics access

Performance analytics are provided through dashboards, giving developers real-time insights into user engagement and programme performance. This data assists in tracking downloads, understanding audience behaviour, and optimising software visibility on the platform.

User interaction

The centre allows developers to read, moderate, and respond directly to reviews left by users. This fosters closer communication, enabling developers to resolve issues and improve their reputations based on feedback. The system aims to enhance trust by promoting transparent exchanges between software creators and end users.

Language localisation

The platform includes support for multi-language translation powered by artificial intelligence, facilitating automatic localisation of program pages. This ensures program information remains accurate across the 18 languages Softonic supports, helping software reach a wider international audience.

Growth tools

Developers can leverage built-in tools for lead generation and increased exposure. Self-advertising options are available to boost programme visibility within the platform's ecosystem. Clear editorial standards guide both organic and sponsored placements.

Future expansion

The company stated that the Softonic Publishing Centre will support further developments in discovery, commerce, and new content formats. The intent is to broaden the platform's ecosystem while maintaining oversight and data-driven decision-making.

Company evolution

Founded in Barcelona and operational since 1997, Softonic's evolution moves it from functioning as a third-party catalogue to an internally managed, trust-focused environment. Its portfolio has expanded to host more than one million programs, supporting users in selecting and safely downloading software.

"The Publishing Centre is built on a flexible, scalable architecture that allows developers to publish and update their software as easily as managing their own repository. Unlike traditional app stores, we follow an open, verification-first model that gives developers full control over versions while ensuring a secure, transparent infrastructure capable of serving millions of users every month." said David Villanueva, VP of Engineering, Softonic.

The Softonic Publishing Centre establishes a single place for developers to engage with their audiences across platforms. It positions itself as a secure environment for software evaluation, with a focus on ownership, transparency, and direct communication between users and publishers.

"Softonic Publishing Centre is a major leap in how we support developers and serve users. By combining verified ownership, transparent policies, and powerful creation tools, we're giving developers the control they need to grow and users the clarity they expect. This platform strengthens our long-term commitment to trusted software discovery and lays the foundation for what comes next," said Marija Marjanovic, Product Director, Softonic.
