TXP acquires Metatech to boost Gen legacy IT modernisation

Yesterday

TXP has acquired Metatech, a Newcastle-based specialist in IT automation for Gen legacy modernisation projects.

The acquisition integrates Metatech's solutions and expertise in Gen, a model-based Computer-Aided Software Engineering (CASE) tool, into the TXP business, which delivers IT consulting, technology development, and people resourcing services to a diverse range of blue chip clients.

Metatech's proprietary suite, known as 'MigrationWorks', supports the technical stages of Gen legacy system modernisation. The platform streamlines the analysis and conversion of critical Gen-powered applications for transition to more modern environments including Cobol, Java, and C# .NET. In addition to these automation capabilities, Metatech also offers strategic IT modernisation consultancy, re-architecture of Gen models, and integration solutions for Gen tooling.

Metatech's services are used across several sectors such as public institutions, financial services, insurance, healthcare, aviation, automotive, telecommunications, and systems integration, with activity spanning both the UK and overseas markets. The company has played a role on a number of large-scale IT projects globally, in many instances collaborating with TXP prior to the formal acquisition.

The purchase is backed by Aliter Capital, a private equity investor with a focus on the support services sector in the UK. Aliter Capital has announced its intention to continue working closely with TXP, indicating that further acquisitions and business growth activities are planned for the future.

John Antunes, Chief Executive Officer of TXP, commented on the acquisition: "This acquisition comes at an ideal time for both businesses. We know the team at Metatech very well and so we know how much this deal will broaden TXP's existing credentials, adding unique automated solutions, scarce technical skillsets, knowledge and experience. Moving forward, this specialist know-how will be a vital element in delivering significant pipeline projects, as well as generating a wealth of new business opportunities."

Metatech's senior leadership, headed by Director Andy Scott, will remain with the business. The senior team will work alongside Antunes to support and facilitate the growth of the combined organisation.

Andy Scott, Director of Metatech, said, "We have seen rapidly increasing demand for modernising legacy IT systems and we believe there is a very positive outlook for the Gen conversion market. Metatech's proven track record and unique technology solutions will place the group in a strong position to benefit from this growing demand and the business opportunities it will create. We look forward to working with John and the TXP team in the next phase of the business's development."

According to the organisations, Gen technology remains a foundation for critical legacy infrastructure within banking, insurance, and government sectors. The acquisition positions TXP amongst a small group of companies worldwide with specialist skills in Gen modernisation and transformation, addressing a market that continues to require expertise for evolving legacy systems.
