BFBS seeks partners for new digital media platform
The British Forces Broadcasting Service (BFBS) has announced plans to partner with strategic organisations to develop a next-generation digital media platform for the UK's Armed Forces and their families.
BFBS aims to enhance the media consumption experience of British military personnel and their families by utilising a combination of digital streaming and traditional broadcasting. The intended multi-platform media ecosystem is designed to keep them informed and entertained with secure and exclusive access to content anywhere, anytime.
Ben Chapman, CEO of BFBS, said, "We're embarking on a journey towards a seamless, multi-platform digital media ecosystem, and we recognise that collaboration is essential to achieving our goals. We welcome the opportunity to engage with organisations that can contribute—partially or fully—to developing our future platform."
The service operates an extensive range of media services, including traditional broadcast, streaming, and interactive platforms. This suite of services is specifically tailored to the needs of military personnel and features British television content, public service broadcasting, and premium sports, series, and films.
BFBS emphasises the importance of collaborative expertise in creating a platform capable of meeting evolving media needs. As part of this initiative, it has opened an Expression of Interest (EOI) process to engage potential partners.
BFBS invites submissions from companies with strong capabilities in technology provision, broadcast services, media distribution, systems integration, and secure app development. Organisations offering comprehensive end-to-end solutions are encouraged to apply, though consortia demonstrating effective service integration will also be considered.
The EOI process is designed to focus on traditional broadcast methods and cutting-edge digital streaming technologies. It emphasises adaptability to emerging technological advancements while maintaining security standards.
To facilitate the EOI process, BFBS has partnered with Spicy Mango, a specialist in digital transformation. Through this EOI process, Spicy Mango is expected to provide expertise and support in selecting suitable strategic partners.
