Cherry unveils MX Northern Light switch for enthusiasts at GBP £25

Today

CHERRY has introduced the MX Northern Light, a special edition linear switch designed for keyboard enthusiasts.

The MX Northern Light has been developed by CHERRY's internal team of switch specialists, to deliver what the company describes as its smoothest typing experience to date.

The switch features a polished top housing combined with a custom blue base, enhancements new to CHERRY's MX2A range. This design is intended to improve performance and give the switch a distinct appearance compared to other CHERRY products.

Joakim Jansson, Head of Product Management at CHERRY, said, "This is our most refined linear switch to date, and it's made for the people who helped inspire it. MX Northern Light reflects what happens when CHERRY listens closely to its community and pushes the limits of precision engineering."

CHERRY has also announced a limited-edition bundle in partnership with XTRFY. This set, referred to as the K5V2 + GP6 Northern Light Bundle, features the K5V2 compact keyboard, equipped with new switches and custom PBT keycaps, paired with a matching GP6 Northern Light XL mouse pad. The aim is to provide a consistent and themed experience for both typing and gaming, with a design inspired by the Aurora Borealis.

According to CHERRY, the MX Northern Light switch was created for enthusiasts and by enthusiasts within the company. The switch is designed to offer a dampened, linear feel with low noise output, targeting users who value quiet and smooth input, whether for gaming, productivity, or recreational use. The typing experience is intended to be, in CHERRY's words, "refined, responsive, and satisfying," delivering a "creamy sound profile."

The switch incorporates CHERRY's MX2A technology, which features a factory-applied lubricant for reduced friction, a barrel spring to help dampen sound, and a glide-optimised stem that works in tandem with the polished housing to ensure smooth operation. These features are intended to improve overall actuation feel and reduce noise.

Performance and durability are also a focus, highlighted by the inclusion of CHERRY's Gold Crosspoint technology. The Northern Light switch is rated for over 50 million keystrokes with no reduction in quality. It also offers a bounce time of less than 1 millisecond, which is relevant for high-speed gaming and rapid input scenarios.

The design sets the Northern Light apart visually, with a blue-toned housing that CHERRY intends as both an aesthetic and conceptual departure from its standard models.

The MX Northern Light switch is available with a suggested retail price of GBP £25 and can be purchased via the company's official online store.

The CHERRY XTRFY K5V2 + GP6 Northern Light Bundle is available for pre-order at a price of GBP £159, providing an option for consumers who want a cohesive keyboard and mousepad set featuring the new switch and its associated design.
