Humber trust shortlisted for two HSJ Digital Awards

Tue, 27th Jan 2026

Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust has been shortlisted for two HSJ Digital Awards 2026, with nominations linked to its Electronic Patient Record programme and its Interweave shared care record platform.

The trust said it was shortlisted in the category of 'Outstanding Achievement in EPR Implementation and Optimisation' for its Electronic Patient Record work. A second shortlist recognises the Interweave team in the category of 'Interoperability and Standards Through Digital'.

The HSJ Digital Awards highlight digital projects and teams across the NHS. The awards focus on programmes that reflect national priorities around digitisation in healthcare.

EPR Programmeme

The trust's Electronic Patient Record work covers a range of services and sites. The organisation delivers care across Hull, the East Riding of Yorkshire, Whitby, Scarborough and Ryedale, and parts of North and North-East Lincolnshire. It operates across more than 79 sites.

The trust said the EPR programme had particular complexity because of the variety of settings and services involved. The organisation runs residential inpatient units and community-based services. It also delivers community and therapy services, primary care, mental health services, learning disability services, healthy lifestyle support and addictions services.

The trust said its geography also added to the challenge of implementing a single EPR. It cited coverage stretching as far north as Whitby and as far south as Goole.

Interweave Platform

Interweave is a shared care record product hosted by Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust. The trust described it as being used locally and nationally by multiple organisations.

The trust said Interweave uses national standards to connect systems and support shared care records. It listed NHS trusts, ambulance services and care homes among the organisations whose data can be joined up through the platform.

The trust also framed Interweave as a multi-partner programme. It said the team worked with partner organisations and considered user experience in how the platform evolves.

Digital Approach

The trust highlighted its BeDigital programme as part of a wider digital-first approach to service delivery. It said a dedicated team works on BeDigital and related initiatives.

Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust employs around 3,600 staff. It provides services to a population of 765,000 people across an area of more than 4,700 square kilometres.

It also runs specialist services for children and other specialist services, including forensic support and offender health.

The trust linked the two nominations to the direction of travel for health data sharing. It said connecting patient records nationally remained the "ultimate goal" for NHS data. It described both programmes as part of that wider journey.

Lee Rickles is Chief Information Officer at Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust and Programmeme Director for Interweave.

"To have been shortlisted and recognised in both these categories is incredible, our work in the digital world continues to be innovative and dynamic as we meet the needs of our patients and partners. Interweave is a project which has grown into one of the leading shared care record platforms. And the Trust's EPR project identifies the drive we have to build solid foundations for our services to deliver the best possible patient care," said Lee Rickles, Chief Information Officer, Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust.

The HSJ Digital Awards 2026 finalists will attend an awards ceremony in May 2026, when the winners in each category will be announced.
