Adobe has announced new innovations in Photoshop and Illustrator that aim to transform creative workflows by enhancing speed, precision, and power.
The company revealed that the latest updates to Photoshop and Illustrator are designed to support creative professionals throughout their entire process, introducing new workflows and performance enhancements.
"The world's most creative people across industries trust Photoshop and Illustrator to help them realise their visions in stunning and breathtaking ways," said Ashley Still, Senior Vice President, Digital Media at Adobe.
"We're thrilled to introduce transformative innovations across our flagship design apps that bring the creative community the most powerful creative tools yet."
The new release targets day-to-day workflows for professionals in various fields, including photography, graphic design, illustration, fashion design, animation, and interior design. The enhancements make it easier to edit digital images and create designs across multiple content types with distinct colours, textures, lighting, and style across both 2D and 3D assets.
Among the new Photoshop features is the Remove Tool, which utilises Distraction Removal smart technology to remove unwanted objects such as people and wires quickly and efficiently. The all-new Generative Workspace, currently in beta and powered by Adobe Firefly, assists designers with brainstorming and iterating concepts simultaneously for faster production of visuals. Additionally, the new Adobe Substance 3D Viewer app, also in beta, allows the seamless editing of 3D Smart Objects within 2D Photoshop designs.
Several other Photoshop enhancements include the general availability of features like Generative Fill, Generative Expand, Generate Similar, and Generate Background, powered by Adobe Firefly Image 3 Model.
These updates provide new ideation and creation avenues. Other workflow improvements cater to advanced colour management and image quality, such as OCIO Configuration and a 32-bit Workflow for HDR, ensuring superior colour precision.
Illustrator has also received significant updates, including the Project Neo web app in beta, which facilitates the creation and editing of 3D designs for integration into Illustrator workflows. Other features such as the all-new Objects on Path allow quick and precise manipulation of objects along paths within art boards. Enhanced Image Trace and Generative Shape Fill, the latter powered by the Firefly Vector Model, aim to streamline design workflows even further.
Additional Illustrator updates include the general availability of the Mockup feature for creating visual prototypes, and several performance improvements such as the Enclosed Selection Mode, Star as a Live Shape, and more. These enhancements are designed to optimise Illustrator operations for increased productivity.
Adobe affirms its commitment to integrating technology into its tools responsibly, underscoring its dedication to its AI Ethics principles of accountability, responsibility, and transparency. The company promotes the adoption of Content Credentials, which provide metadata such as the creator's identity and editing history to show users how digital content was created.
Additionally, a new free web app, Adobe Content Authenticity, is planned for public beta availability in 2025. It will enable creators to protect and attribute their work using features like batch application of Content Credentials.
The latest Photoshop and Illustrator releases are now available globally. Adobe continues to explore further developments in its digital tools as it seeks to evolve the landscape of digital creativity.
