Tandberg Data revives RDX storage with new EMEA distribution

Thu, 13th Nov 2025

Tandberg Data has returned to the European removable storage market with the relaunch of its RDX product line, following the collapse of its parent company Overland Tandberg and its European subsidiary earlier in 2025. French distributor eParts has taken on the role of exclusive master distributor for the EMEA region, overseeing production, distribution, and technical support for the widely used RDX drives and cartridges.

Market re-entry

Tandberg Data products had left the market abruptly after the liquidation, leaving many businesses across Europe without official support for RDX hardware, a removable storage technology popular since its introduction in 2006. In recent months, eParts coordinated with new Asian investors, who acquired the brand and manufacturing assets, to facilitate technical continuity and ensure compatibility with installed equipment.

The relaunch is focused solely on the RDX line, with other tape storage products from Overland excluded. The RDX market in Europe is estimated to be worth between EUR €15 million and EUR €20 million annually, with over 1.3 million RDX drives having been installed since launch. According to eParts, several hundred thousand of these remain in operation across the region.

Distribution approach

eParts is working with a network of authorised wholesale distribution partners to cover key markets. These partners include Ingram Micro and Dexxon Group in France, Wortmann and Kosatec in Germany, EET Group in Denmark, Titan Data Solutions in the United Kingdom, Alltron in Switzerland, and FF Service in Italy. The distributor is also managing after-sales service, warranty, and support for products sold prior to the liquidation as well as those now reintroduced to the market.

"When the closure of Overland Tandberg was announced, we saw a sharp increase in demand for RDX hardware and cartridges. That made us realize there was still real potential in this market, and we reached out to the brand's rights holders," said Tanguy Bérard, Managing Director, eParts

The company has confirmed it is seeking to expand its channel with additional distribution, system integrator, and reseller partners, particularly in markets not yet fully covered by existing agreements.

Continuity for customers

The volume of existing RDX installations has driven demand for continued product support and supply. Businesses relying on the technology for backup and data transport require not only new units but also compatible cartridges and ongoing maintenance amid a changing landscape for backup infrastructure.

"We are currently seeking additional partners (distributors, system integrators, resellers) to expand our European distribution network and reach resellers looking for RDX products and backup solutions in markets not yet covered," said Bérard.

Future plans

eParts, under the Tandberg Data Europe entity, will direct new product development and the reintegration of RDX into pan-European business channels. The company reports ongoing investment in ensuring backward compatibility and reliability for the existing customer base.

"Our mission is to make it clear that the Tandberg Data brand is back, that production has resumed, and that a structured distribution network is being rebuilt across Europe. We aim to provide European RDX users with the continuity they've been waiting for," said Damien Thiaudière, CEO Europe, Tandberg Data.
