Trustpilot has become a key reviews partner within Shopify, deepening its role in the commerce platform.

Under the arrangement, Shopify merchants can connect their online stores directly to Trustpilot through an updated app in the Shopify App Store. The integration is designed to help merchants collect, manage and display customer reviews more easily, while letting shoppers see feedback on storefronts in real time.

Platform integration

The tie-up reflects a broader shift in online retail as merchants and platforms seek new ways to demonstrate authenticity to shoppers. Both companies are positioning third-party reviews as a more prominent part of the buying journey as artificial intelligence changes how consumers discover products and assess brands.

The enhanced app includes improved data synchronisation and automated tools for review collection and management. It is now generally available to merchants using Shopify.

AI influence

Reviews have become more important to retailers as online shopping tools grow more automated and generative AI makes it easier to launch new digital storefronts. In that environment, established reputation signals can play a larger role in whether consumers feel confident enough to make a purchase.

Another factor is the growing use of AI-driven search, recommendation tools and shopping assistants. These systems often draw on external signals, including reviews and citations, when surfacing brands and products to users.

For Trustpilot, the partnership provides closer access to merchants at the point where reviews can directly influence conversion and customer confidence. For Shopify, it adds another review option within its merchant ecosystem as sellers look for simpler ways to manage customer feedback across sales channels.

Merchant strategy

Trustpilot describes itself as the world's largest open customer feedback platform. It says it hosts more than 361 million reviews and generates 160 billion annual brand impressions.

Shopify is one of the largest providers of internet infrastructure for commerce, serving merchants ranging from small independent sellers to larger brands. The expanded relationship with Trustpilot supports Shopify's strategy of offering merchants apps and integrations that can be embedded into day-to-day store operations.

Adrian Blair, Chief Executive Officer of Trustpilot, linked the move to changes in how online decisions are made.

"Trust has become one of the defining signals people rely on when deciding which business, service or retailer to choose. As customer journeys become faster, more automated and increasingly AI-driven, people want confidence that the companies they buy from are genuine, transparent and reliable. This partnership brings Trustpilot closer to where purchase decisions are being made every day, making it easier for merchants to build credibility through open customer feedback while helping shoppers see trusted reviews more naturally within the Shopify experience," said Adrian Blair, Chief Executive Officer, Trustpilot.

Building credibility

Shopify's regional leadership said merchants are looking for straightforward ways to establish credibility as online competition intensifies.

"Merchants want simple ways to build credibility with customers as they grow online. As AI changes how people discover and decide what to buy, independent customer feedback becomes one of the strongest signals a merchant can build. Making Trustpilot reviews easier to collect, manage and surface across Shopify helps our merchants compete on one of the things that matters most to any business: genuine customer trust," said Deann Evans, Managing Director of EMEA, Shopify.
