BackBox launches Kilter AI for network operations

BackBox has launched the Kilter Platform and introduced Kilter AI for network operations. The AI layer is available now as part of its network cyber resilience offering.

The product brings backup, compliance, security, and automation tools for multi-vendor network infrastructure into a single platform, while keeping human approval at the centre of operational decisions. Kilter AI is designed as an advisory layer for network operations and security teams rather than a fully autonomous system.

The launch also renames BackBox's Network Cyber Resilience Platform as Kilter, with Kilter AI positioned as its intelligence layer. The broader platform includes Kilter ALM for lifecycle management tasks such as onboarding, backup and recovery, upgrades and patching, and Kilter Enterprise for compliance, policy, and infrastructure integrity.

Kilter ALM works across more than 180 vendors and includes more than 3,000 pre-built automations. Kilter Enterprise is intended to provide a configuration source of truth, hardening frameworks, vulnerability intelligence, and change monitoring.

Human oversight

BackBox is entering a market where businesses are under pressure to automate routine network and security work while managing rising vulnerability volumes and fragmented toolsets. It is seeking to differentiate its approach by stressing that human teams should review and approve AI recommendations before changes are made.

That position comes as enterprises face a growing stream of disclosed software flaws and increasingly rapid exploitation of known weaknesses. BackBox cited industry data showing that more than 48,000 new CVEs were published in 2025, up 20% from the previous year, and that around 60% of breach victims point to known, unpatched vulnerabilities.

Platform detail

Kilter AI aggregates vulnerability information from sources including CISA, NVD, NIST, and vendors to create what BackBox described as a normalised view of risk across devices. The aim is to help teams identify which issues need attention first across complex environments.

Another feature focuses on workaround information for CVEs, pulling together vendor guidance and linking it to configuration data so teams can judge whether a settings change may reduce exposure without an immediate patch or upgrade. The system can also search configuration files to determine whether action is required across affected devices.

The AI layer can turn workaround information into visual and executable chains that teams can inspect and edit before use. It also includes an interface that converts command-line input into reusable automations that can be previewed, saved, and executed without requiring deep scripting knowledge.

Customer view

BackBox included a customer example of how the broader platform is being used in practice, centred on inventory visibility and automated compliance tasks when devices are added to a network.

Market pressure

The launch reflects a broader push across enterprise IT to apply AI to infrastructure management, particularly in areas where teams face repetitive manual processes and mounting security workloads. BackBox said 60% of IT leaders plan to implement AI-enabled predictive network automation within the next two years.

BackBox serves more than 500 enterprises worldwide, according to the company. Its pitch is that a unified approach can help network and security teams manage backups, operating system updates, compliance checks, and vulnerability remediation from one environment rather than through separate products.

Kilter AI is available now as part of the Kilter Platform, which brings together Kilter ALM, Kilter Enterprise, and the new AI layer on a no-code foundation.
