Klarna has partnered with Money Wellness to offer its users free financial health checks. The service gives Klarna customers access to a financial review called a Money MOT.

The partnership brings Money Wellness support into Klarna's app and wider customer journey in the UK. Users can speak to an adviser, book a call for later, or complete an online assessment through a secure link.

The offer is aimed at people who want a clearer view of their finances before problems emerge, rather than only after they fall into difficulty. The check-up provides a personalised snapshot of income, spending and financial pressures, along with practical steps on budgeting, improving day-to-day money management and dealing with debt.

For Klarna, the tie-up adds a financial guidance tool to a platform best known for payments and shopping services. The feature is open to all users, not just those already in arrears or seeking debt advice.

Money Wellness is a UK financial wellbeing provider commissioned by the Money and Pensions Service to deliver free debt help. It supports around 1,000 people a day and is one of only two commissioned debt relief hubs nationally.

The partnership reflects a wider push by financial and payments groups to offer support earlier in the customer relationship. In recent years, providers across banking, credit and fintech have placed greater emphasis on budgeting tools, spending insights and access to guidance as pressure on household finances has persisted.

How it works

Klarna customers can choose how they want to use the service. They can speak with a Money Wellness adviser, arrange a conversation for another time, or use an online health check.

The Money MOT is designed to identify where people can make better use of their income or reduce financial strain. According to details released by the companies, it can cover everyday budgeting support, ways to make money go further and advice on managing debt.

The service also aims to lower barriers to seeking help. By placing the offer within a mainstream consumer finance app, the companies are targeting users who might not approach a debt charity or specialist adviser until their circumstances worsen.

Abby Vickers, Head of Financial Services UK at Klarna, described the service as a simple entry point for customers looking for practical support.

"The Money MOT is a quick, free way to see where you stand and pick up practical, personalised tips - whether your finances are in great shape or you'd just like to feel more on top of things. We're proud to bring the experts at Money Wellness right into the Klarna app, so a bit of help is always just a tap away," said Abby Vickers, Head of Financial Services UK at Klarna.

Consumer support

The partnership comes as consumer lenders and payment firms face continued scrutiny over how they support customers under financial pressure. Access to early guidance has become a more prominent part of that discussion, particularly for providers whose services are used for everyday purchases.

Klarna has more than 118 million active users globally and processes 3.4 million transactions each day, according to company figures. Given the scale of its customer base, even a relatively modest take-up of financial health checks could generate significant volumes for Money Wellness.

The arrangement may also broaden Money Wellness's reach beyond people already seeking debt support. Its role in delivering free debt help under contract with the Money and Pensions Service gives it an established position in the UK advice landscape, but the Klarna partnership puts its services in front of a much wider retail audience.

Sebrina McCullough, Director of External Relations at Money Wellness, said the aim was to make help available before financial problems become acute.

"At Money Wellness, we believe that financial wellbeing is about more than dealing with problems when they arise. It's about helping people feel confident and in control of their money every day. We're delighted to partner with Klarna to make free, financial support easily accessible to customers and help more people take positive steps towards long-term financial wellbeing," said Sebrina McCullough, Director of External Relations at Money Wellness.
