TCL has expanded Google TV with Gemini to more of its television models in Europe, with the update already available in the UK.
The software is rolling out to selected new sets in TCL's 2025 line-up and to eligible existing devices, with availability varying by market and update schedule. Supported models include TCL's SQD-Mini LED range X11L, C8L and C7L, as well as the RGB-Mini LED range RM9L and RM7L.
Google TV with Gemini adds voice-led features that let viewers search for programmes using more conversational requests rather than exact titles. Users can also ask questions on screen, control compatible smart home devices, play music and receive personalised recommendations.
The rollout brings Google's latest television software experience to eligible existing sets, removing the need for new hardware. Timing will vary across European markets throughout the year.
Model rollout
In practical terms, the update expands access to features introduced as part of Google's push to make television interfaces work more like digital assistants. Instead of navigating menus or entering specific search terms, viewers can interact with the TV more directly through spoken prompts.
TCL is also using the release to reinforce its position in the market for large-screen and Google TV devices. It said it ranked first globally by shipment volume of televisions using Google TV OS for five consecutive years from 2021 to 2025.
That matters because Google TV has become an important software layer for television makers seeking to differentiate their products without building full operating systems of their own. For manufacturers such as TCL, software partnerships can shape the user experience as much as screen technology.
The rollout also reflects how television brands are bringing more of the smart home into the living room. By tying voice controls and recommendations into the screen itself, manufacturers are positioning the TV as a central hub for entertainment and connected devices.
European focus
TCL presented the expansion as part of a broader push across Europe. While the UK is already live, other key markets will follow as the software reaches supported models and individual updates are approved.
The update covers sets built around TCL's Mini LED offerings, including both SQD-Mini LED and RGB Mini LED categories. That ties the software launch to the company's effort to sell premium display products while improving the software customers use every day.
For the wider television market, updates like this are becoming more important because they can extend the useful life of devices already in people's homes. Rather than limiting new functions to a new product cycle, brands can add services after purchase and keep existing owners within their platform.
There are limits to that approach. Availability depends on market rollout timing, model support and system update schedules, so not every owner of a recent television will necessarily receive the features at the same time.
Even so, the announcement underlines the growing role of artificial intelligence in mainstream consumer electronics. In televisions, that trend is appearing less in image-processing language and more in how people find content, control devices and navigate interfaces.
Stefan Streit, CMO, TCL Europe, said the European release is intended to make those interactions easier for viewers. "TCL continues to focus on making viewing experiences more practical and accessible for consumers across Europe," he said.
He added: "Bringing the Google TV with Gemini experience to more TCL TVs reflects our broader approach to connected entertainment, where intuitive interaction and premium display experiences come together naturally in everyday life."
