Adobe elevates Frame.io with new camera partnerships

Yesterday

Adobe has announced the general availability of the next generation of Frame.io, a platform boosting collaboration by expanding support to video, photography, and design while integrating native Adobe file formats.

This latest iteration of Frame.io includes partnerships with Canon, Nikon, and Leica, integrating their cameras into Frame.io's Camera to Cloud ecosystem. This development, branded as the fastest, easiest, and most secure mechanism to transmit media from the set directly to essential collaborators, promises to enhance the production workflow significantly.

"Creativity is increasingly a team sport. That's why we've not only made significant performance improvements to Frame.io's video post-production review and approval tools but also broadened the scope of Frame.io to support imaging, design, and other media," Senior Vice President of Digital Media at Adobe, Ashley Still, said.

Frame.io has become vital for millions worldwide, with notable users including Google, Pepsi, WPP, and Yeti among its 4 million global users.

The platform plays a critical role in creating award-winning films and TV series by facilitating seamless collaboration across global teams through its cloud-based workflows.

Since its beta release, the updated Frame.io has aimed to better manage and simplify collaboration for creatives needing to deliver large-scale content. It features a custom metadata model that helps organise assets with predefined or custom fields, allowing the creation of "Collections". These functionalities are integral in building bespoke workflows for streamlining processes such as multi-stage reviews and dailies distribution.

The latest Frame.io features include a sophisticated custom streaming player and a redesigned comparison viewer, which provide enhanced playback and version comparison capabilities. Integration with Premiere Pro and Lightroom makes these workflows more efficient, while other refinements improve sharing, commenting, and governance frameworks for enterprise users, making the platform more adaptable to unique workflow needs.

In recent use, Princess Cruises utilised Frame.io in conjunction with Adobe's creative suite to manage a major remote production project. A small team, working across several locations, managed to capture a substantial amount of footage, demonstrating the platform's capability to support complex, large-scale creative endeavours efficiently.

Adding Canon, Nikon, and Leica to the Frame.io Camera to Cloud ecosystem extends Adobe's partnerships with major digital camera companies, providing unique workflow benefits to photographers and videographers.

This integration allows for immediate media centralisation and organisation, enabling teams to review, edit, and manage their assets remotely and efficiently without traditional physical media transfers.

President of Duplass Brothers Productions, Mel Eslyn, also sees value in the Camera to Cloud feature.

"I'm a big fan of using Camera to Cloud as it allows set, basecamp, and editorial to all be linked up for real-time collaboration, no matter the distance," she said. The technology was utilised during the production of the series Penelope, demonstrating its potential in challenging locations.

Committing to further support for creatives, Adobe ensures Frame.io's capabilities extend beyond video, empowering creative work across various disciplines such as photography and imaging. The integration with Lightroom exemplifies this development, allowing photographers to transfer images directly into their Lightroom accounts for immediate editing and use.

These updates to Frame.io underscore Adobe's commitment to improving and expanding creative collaboration tools, adapting to the evolving needs of creative professionals worldwide.
