commercetools launches solution for booming healthcare ecommerce
commercetools, a player in the European technology sector, has introduced a new composable commerce solution tailored specifically for the healthcare market.
Dubbed "commercetools for Healthcare," this solution aims to address the burgeoning healthcare ecommerce market, projected to reach USD$800 billion. The company seeks to leverage this opportunity to broaden its existing market scope, aid both traditional and digital healthcare entities in enhancing patient experiences, and enable seamless scaling across various markets free from regulatory and financial hindrances.
commercetools is no stranger to the healthcare industry, even though this marks its debut with a dedicated solution for the sector. The company already has an established clientele including well-known UK brands such as Boots, Specsavers, and Nuffield Health. The new solution promises to harness APIs and microservices to streamline operations, diminish resource strain and IT maintenance costs, and introduce new customer experiences like loyalty programmes.
The Munich-based company announced that commeretools for Healthcare is the first composable commerce solution compliant with HIPAA and HDS certifications. These regulations are crucial for handling Protected Health Information (PHI) in the United States and France. By undergoing rigorous third-party security risk assessments and external compliance audits, commercetools has ensured that its new solution meets stringent data security standards.
The innovative solution is built on commercetools' market-leading composable commerce platform. Key features include a Business Associate Agreement (BAA) framework ensuring secure PHI processing in the US market, comprehensive compliance with standards such as SOC 2 Type 2, Cyber Essentials, and TISAX Level 2. It also adheres to frameworks like HITRUST CSF and NIST 800-30 Rev 1. The company maintains an ISO 27001 certified information security management system and mandates HIPAA and HDS training for all employees.
Mike Sharp, Chief Product Officer at commercetools, highlighted the importance of trust and security in the healthcare industry alongside the need for seamless, modern customer experiences. "We're proud to introduce commercetools for Healthcare to the market–the first and only truly composable solution able to securely process PHI under a BAA framework. This solution is a game-changer for healthcare companies as they can now reap the benefits of composable commerce while keeping PHI safe and secure," he stated.
Among the notable implementations of commercetools' technologies is Vision Healthcare, a Netherlands-based consumer healthcare platform with over 75 brands and 5,000 SKUs across 44 markets. Vision Healthcare grappled with scaling and order volume challenges on its in-house platform. By adopting commercetools' Composable Commerce platform, the company was able to unify its tech stack across all its brands, enhance scalability, reduce IT maintenance and resource strain, and introduce new customer experiences such as a loyalty programme and the launch of 16 new websites.
Diederik Oostburg, Director of Information Technology at Vision Healthcare, lauded the impact of commercetools' solution. "With composable commerce, we've been able to focus on the customer experience instead of the nitty gritty IT infrastructure. In other words, we can revolutionise consumer healthcare, innovate faster, and focus on growth," he remarked.
commercetools' new endeavour underscores its continued commitment to pioneering advances in digital commerce. As healthcare companies strive to balance regulatory compliance with the need for modern digital experiences, commercetools for Healthcare is poised to offer them a robust, adaptable solution that integrates security with innovation.
