Litera embeds Lito AI in legal tools at no extra charge for users

Thu, 30th Oct 2025

Litera has launched its AI legal agent, Lito, within its core products at no extra cost to customers.

Lito is now automatically included in Litera's legal drafting packages-Draft Base, Pro, and Advanced-as well as with its workflow and due diligence solution, Kira. This integration reaches tens of thousands of legal professionals across more than 15,000 law firms, bringing advanced agentic AI directly into their daily work tools, including connectivity to contract review solution Kira and document management platform NetDocuments.

AI access for all

The move aims to eliminate financial and technological barriers to artificial intelligence in the legal sector, allowing lawyers of all firm sizes to benefit from AI-driven automation built into their existing environments. According to Litera, this aligns with a legal AI market valued at USD $1.45 billion in 2024, with expectations to reach USD $3.90 billion by 2030, as cited by Grand View Research.

Litera CEO Avaneesh Marwaha said the launch represents a significant turning point for the industry.

"Today marks a watershed moment for the legal profession. Tens of thousands of lawyers just gained technology that delivers 10x efficiency gains, directly in the tools where they do their work," said Marwaha.
"After three decades as the legal industry's trusted partner, we understand that revolutionary change must meet professionals where they are. Lito supercharges the Microsoft tools lawyers already use every day, delivering enterprise-grade AI automation with zero friction and zero learning curve. While others talk about the future of legal AI, we've just delivered it at a significant scale-instantly democratizing advanced legal technology for everyone from BigLaw to solo practitioners."

Marwaha emphasised that the company's goal is to make AI easily accessible, regardless of firm size or budget, embedded natively to provide explainable AI tools at no additional fee. He stated Litera's mission is to ensure AI becomes a trusted and intuitive component of everyday legal work, tailored to firm-specific knowledge requirements.

Lito's features and rollout

Lito, which had a preliminary release to select clients earlier this year, is designed by lawyers for legal professionals, and is based on Litera's three decades of sector-specific expertise. Lito is available via the Litera One interface, now used by around 40% of Litera's customer base across Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Web platforms. At its introduction, Lito includes a core library of 11 AI-driven legal skills, engineered by Litera's knowledge team, with ongoing updates planned to address needs in areas such as Capital Markets, M&A, Business Development, Litigation, and Compliance.

High-profile law firms in Litera's Early Access Programme have shaped Lito's early development, and users have reported benefits in ease of use and efficiency. Joshua Tan, Partner at Delta Law Corporation, shared his experience:

"The platform has a user-friendly interface and has simplified the need for prompt engineering through the use of pre-defined skills, which was useful for users who were less familiar with working with LLMs. The use of Lito shows significant promise for reducing the time required for menial tasks, particularly once users become more accustomed with the parameters of the platform."

Lito's workflow capabilities are structured to handle both singular and multiple-step processes. The AI agent chains together legal tasks and guides users through each, all within Litera's software ecosystems and popular tools, integrating with platforms like iManage and NetDocuments.

Litera highlights that Lito differs from generic chatbots or basic LLM wrappers by combining advanced language model technology with long-standing rules-based engines-drawing on Litera's 30 years' experience to deliver AI tools grounded in tested processes as well as new-generation abilities.

Industry observations

Ryan O'Leary, Research Director, Privacy and Legal Technology at IDC, commented on the broader implications for legal AI adoption:

"The next wave of legal AI won't be defined by who has the largest dataset or deepest pockets, but by who can make intelligence accessible inside the daily workflow. Embedding agentic AI directly within trusted tools closes the gap between innovation and adoption."

By embedding Lito into legal professionals' trusted workflow and content management platforms, Litera aims to bridge the gap between technology advancement and day-to-day legal practice. The company continues to expand the capabilities of its AI offerings, driven by ongoing collaboration with legal teams and sector experts.
