Payara & Azul partner to boost Java app performance & cloud
Payara and Azul have announced a strategic partnership to deliver a joint solution designed to enhance the performance of enterprise Java applications and streamline modernisation initiatives.
This new collaboration brings together Payara Qube, Payara's platform for running and managing Java applications, with Azul Platform Prime, a high-performance Java runtime. The joint offering is designed to facilitate codeless, lift-and-shift migrations, minimise infrastructure and cloud costs, and provide greater scalability and performance without requiring code changes.
According to Payara and Azul, the integrated product is especially well suited for organisations in highly regulated sectors or those managing large numbers of Java applications across hybrid and multi-cloud environments. It is designed to enable development teams to deploy any enterprise Java application rapidly and securely, supporting diverse workloads on any Java Virtual Machine (JVM)-based platform.
Payara Qube leverages automation, pre-configured Kubernetes environments, built-in observability and compliance-ready controls. The platform aims to simplify the deployment of enterprise Java applications, reducing complexity and offering out-of-the-box tools for secure and efficient deployment management.
Azul Platform Prime focuses on optimising the Java runtime layer, offering improvements in speed, startup and consistency when compared with standard OpenJDK distributions. These performance improvements are designed to ensure that Java applications and JVM-based workloads run more efficiently in production, without requiring modifications to the application code.
The companies highlight that the joint solution requires no changes to application code and is compatible with any Java application and workload operating within a JVM environment.
Kubernetes and cloud acceleration
The partnership aims to simplify the application modernisation process for global enterprises, providing them with tools for faster cloud adoption and easier management of deployment processes. This is particularly relevant for teams dealing with containerised environments where complexity and performance bottlenecks are common challenges.
"We are delighted to expand our partnership with Payara," said Scott Sellers, co-founder and CEO at Azul. "By integrating Azul Platform Prime with Payara Qube, enterprise customers can quickly modernise their Java applications with codeless, lift-and-shift migrations that ensure the highest performance, best security and lowest cost of ownership, all without changing a single line of code."
Steve Millidge, founder and CEO of Payara, commented on the additional value created by integrating Payara's platform with Azul's Java runtime:
"This partnership between Payara and Azul isn't just a collaboration - it's a game-changer for Kubernetes-native Java application deployment. Azul Platform Prime brings unmatched performance and efficiency to Payara Qube's revolutionary Java platform. Together, we're redefining how enterprises run Java - faster, more securely, and with dramatically lower cloud costs, all without the usual complexity of containerised environments."
Target sectors
The offering is targeted at sectors that require strict controls on deployment and compliance, such as finance and healthcare, as well as any enterprise seeking cost-effective and simplified Java application modernisation. The companies state that by combining their technologies, customers can reduce operational expenditure, benefit from enhanced security features, and streamline the management of large application portfolios.
The joint solution is designed to address common issues faced by teams managing Java workloads in hybrid and multi-cloud environments, providing greater operational transparency, faster deployment times, and improved control over cloud resources.
Payara and Azul intend to support enterprises as they transition to more cloud-native environments, focusing on reducing the complexity associated with containerisation and modern application deployment, while offering performance and resource usage improvements.
