RETN launches high-speed fibre route between Milan & Padua
RETN has deployed a new high-performance fibre optic route between Milan and Padua in Italy to enhance connectivity along this important corridor.
The newly established route spans 360 kilometres and is included in RETN's extensive 140,000 kilometre global network. According to the company, the segment from Milan to Ponte San Pietro (Bergamo) represents the shortest and most efficient available connection on the market, providing particular benefits for industries where latency is a critical factor, including finance.
The route leverages Points of Presence (PoPs) at Milan's Caldera Campus and the Padua VSIX Internet Exchange, and passes through the Aruba Data Centre in Ponte San Pietro. This particular topology is designed to ensure improved performance and network efficiency along the Milan–Padua axis, a strategic pathway for national data traffic.
Network details
As part of this development, RETN has collaborated with Aruba, a carrier-neutral provider, which has provided a strategic location at its data centre for the deployment. This move is aimed at organisations that require connectivity as a vital operational asset, with the route promising rapid response times and high network stability.
RETN has stated that the new infrastructure allows companies to access greater bandwidth capacity. This is expected to help organisations meet the demands associated with data growth and support digital business models that rely on scalable and reliable connectivity solutions.
Strategic importance
Milko Ilari, Head of Southern Europe at RETN, said the deployment aligns with the company's broader ambitions in Europe and Eurasia.
"This new route reaffirms our ongoing commitment to the Italian market and represents a concrete milestone toward interconnecting with RETN's Eastern European network, delivering increasingly widespread and integrated connectivity on a Eurasian scale. Milan and Padua are two strategic hubs for national data traffic: connecting them through an optimised infrastructure offers Italian businesses a tangible advantage in terms of performance, scalability, and global market access."
The newly deployed Milan–Padua connection forms part of RETN's national expansion strategy, following previous investments in developing its European network footprint. RETN has indicated that such expansions are vital for organisations seeking both low-latency data transfers and access to secure, redundant pathways for business continuity.
The integration of this route into the company's existing fibre network also advances RETN's objectives to interconnect with its infrastructure, which extends across Western and Eastern Europe, Central Asia, and onward towards China and Southeast Asia. The company suggests that this approach facilitates cross-border business and digital transformation initiatives for enterprises operating across Eurasia.
Sector impact
The route is designed to benefit a variety of users, particularly those in sectors where latency and high-speed connectivity are key business priorities. Financial institutions, hyperscalers, and multinational corporations that conduct large-scale data transfers or run latency-sensitive applications are among those most likely to benefit from the shorter and more efficient Milan to Padua link.
By deploying this route, RETN aims to address the growing demand for high-capacity and low-latency connectivity as businesses increasingly rely on cloud platforms, real-time data analysis, and other bandwidth-intensive processes.
